Nationale Competitie 1

Environs - Bas Verbruggen

Spaceboy - Veerle De Wilde
Spaceboy is a film about a special bond between two brothers. It is a story that I have been wanting to tell for a long time. While working as a psychologist in a youth care institution, I was astonis- hed by the boundless creativity children can muster, even in the bleakest circum- stances. In a way, this creativity is their way of dealing with the situation. This has made a deep impression on me, and I wanted to make a film that celebrates this.

When humans don't watch - Felix Ysenbaert

Entre Nous - Simon van der Zande
A discomforting situation unfolds a late night in the streets of Brussels, when Ousmane and his sister Tiguidanké decide to ask a young couple passing by for help.

So Sick - Emma Daelman
The inspiration for most of my work comes from reading non-fiction. In an attempt to more intuitively grasp the theory, I try to reconstruct it using visual material. For my film, ‘So Sick’, I started from the book ‘Capitalist Realism’ by Mark Fisher. In which he elaborates on the inescapability of capitalism in contemporary society aswell as all the mental health issues that follow suit. My film medidates on alienation under capitalism, specifically from the other and the self. My character is searching for meaning in a meaningless world.

Bami - Eline Vanderbemden
Aiming to become a better artist, I went back to school and graduated with the shortfilm BAMI.
Finding inspiration in everyday life and investigating how to combine this with fantasy, to create compelling stories.

Elong E'nabe - Niels Devlieghere
Elong E'nabe is the story of Angela, a girl of Senegalese roots born in Belgium. Ten years ago, her parents migrated from Africa in search of a safer environment for her children to grow up. The part of Belgium where they live is known for its right-wing nationalist supporters and the increasing migration of African families to the region creates a lot of tension. The film shows an image of what it is like to grow up as an Afro-descendant child in Flanders.
